EARLY RELEASE – Tuesday, September 17th

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS
As you may be aware, we had to make difficult decisions regarding our school budget last year. For this reason, we will not be able to offer middle school sports (cross country, track and field, and volleyball). Additionally, we understand that late buses have been a helpful resource for families, but unfortunately, they will not be running this year.
Despite these changes, we are happy to announce that we will be offering after-school activities and Homework Club again this year. We will have further details over the next few weeks.
ROBOTICS
The Locke Monsters Robotics Team has limited spots available for the upcoming competition season. Anyone who is interested in possibly joining the team, should reach out to Mr. DeBenedetto (hdebenedetto@billericak12.com
Participating students will need to have a way to get transportation home from the Locke after our meetings. At this time, we are planning for the robotics meetings to be on Mondays and Wednesdays until 3:30 p.m.
Once we have an idea of who is interested, we plan to hold a "Robotics Training Camp" so that existing team members and new students can work together on the robots. New students can get a better idea of what is involved and if they are truly interested in participating. The dates of the Training Camp have not yet been determined.
PTO CORNER
The PTO welcomes all families to the Locke. We will be meeting monthly to plan several events throughout the year. We are always looking for volunteers to help plan great programs that will benefit our students. Our first meeting will be:
Wednesday, September 18th at 6:00 PM in the Locke Library.
Our new board members are:
Andrea Toomey -- President
Amit Gandhi -- Vice-President
Jacqui Chaffins -- Treasurer
Katie Malone – Secretary

MATH PROBLEM OF THE WEEK #2
Bella’s Binder
Bella was putting together her binder after the first day of school. She bought a pack of 200 sheets of loose-leaf notebook paper and some dividers. She wanted to put the same amount of paper in each of the four sections for her core subjects: math, history, English, and science. She figured that her two elective courses (art and music) each only needed half of the amount of paper that a core subject needed because they did not meet every day. How many sheets of paper did she put into the art section of her notebook?
Bonus Question: Larry’s Locker -- Larry received his locker combination from his first period teacher. He noticed that each of the three integers of the combination is a prime, the sum of the three integers is 50, and the three integers are in decreasing order. What is the value of the last integer of Larry’s locker combination?
Last week’s Answer: $191.50 Congratulations to Alexander Chu and Olivia Santiago -- Send your answers to Mr. Garas – tgaras@billericak12.com – Show your work! We will choose two winners each week for a Dunkin gift card and the highly coveted math certificate!!
RIDDLE/JOKE OF THE WEEK
What was the hen called who could solve math problems?
Last week’s Answer -- Where does a chemistry teacher eat lunch? – On the periodic Table!!
