September 23, 2018 Dear Parents/Guardians, Staff, and Students, Fall is officially here! I hope you are enjoying the cooler temperatures this weekend and maybe the 6 th  grade wing will be a little cooler also. We have another busy week ahead with a full  5 Days of Learning ! September 16, 2018 Dear Parents/Guardians, Staff, and Students, We made it through our first full week and the students and staff are settling in. Summer won’t quit and we had more hot days, but everyone managed well. We have another busy week ahead with a full  5 Days of Learning ! September 9, 2018 Dear Parents/Guardians, Staff, and Students, We had a successful opening week at the Locke. Students and staff made it through locker assignments, bus numbers, new schedules, and the HEAT! It was great to see our students excited to be back and ready for an awesome year. I hope everyone is having a restful weekend as we prepare for our first full week of  5 days of learning ! Quote of the Week : “The time is always right to do what is right.” Martin Luther King, Jr. CURRICULUM CORNER Encourage nonfiction reading:  Students will be reading a lot of nonfiction this year. A strong emphasis of our curriculum is on “informational text” which prepares our students for high school, college, and career. Please encourage your children to read nonfiction books about topics they are interested in. As the year begins, we have a lot of information to provide to parents: SCHOOL TIMES School starts promptly at 7:30. Students should be in their homeroom at 7:30. The

September 4, 2018 Dear Parents/Guardians, Staff, and Students, Welcome Back!! In an attempt to improve communication with families, we started the Life at the Locke weekly newsletter of what is happening at the Locke. I hope to “publish” every Sunday night or Monday of a long weekend. I hope you have all enjoyed the summer and are ready for school to begin. We have been busy this summer hiring new staff members and getting the building ready for students. I want to thank our custodial staff for working through the hot days to clean our school and having it ready for students and staff. I would also like to welcome the following staff members to the Locke: Lauren Bidell – special education 7B, Paula Cabral – Librarian, Sue Jacobs – interventionist, Christina Mitza – ELA 8B, Samantha Myers – long-term substitute ELA 7A, Dan States – paraprofessional, compass, Alyssa Vozzella – paraprofessional 6A One of our school improvement goals this year is focused on student engagement
