Dear Parents/Guardians, Staff, and Students,

I hope you are having a great 3-day weekend! It is a great time of year with football, leaf peeping, county fairs, apple picking, and beautiful fall weather. At the Locke, the school year is in full swing with so much going on. We only have 4 DAYS OF LEARNING this week, but we have a busy schedule ahead as usual. Let’s see what’s happening …

MATH PROBLEM OF THE WEEK #4

Fall in New England

It’s Autumn, and that means leaves are falling! Amber’s house occupies 2650 ft2 in the middle of a 50-foot by 89-foot parcel of land, and the leaves that fall cover the ground all around her house.

1. If it takes Amber’s family 4.5 hours to rake all the leaves, how many square feet of leaves did they rake each hour?

2. Last year, when Amber’s family raked the leaves, they used one bag per 100 square feet raked. This year, since there were more fallen leaves, they ended up using 50% more bags. How many more bags did they use this year?

Last Week’s Answer: Tim picked apples for 6 hours, They made $120 in profit -- Congratulations to Callan Miller and Lincoln Cheung

Send your answers to Mr. Garas – tgaras@billericak12.com – Show your work! You can win a Dunkins gift card and the highly coveted math certificate!!

RIDDLE/JOKE OF THE WEEK

Last week’s answer: Who helped the little pumpkin cross the road? – the crossing gourd!

This Week: How can one tree contact another tree?

BMHS VOLLEYBALL FUNDRAISER

Join the BMHS volleyball program in supporting the Find the Cause Breast Cancer Foundation on Friday, October 20th. See the attached flyer for more details.
