LIFE AT THE LOCKE … Issue #21 2020-2021
February 7, 2021
Dear Parents/Guardians, Staff, and Students,
I hope you are enjoying the weekend and getting ready for the big game. The newsletter will be off next week as we go on our winter break. During the break, we ask that families stay diligent with Covid protocols and follow the state guidelines for travel. With the vaccinations on the way, hopefully there is an end in sight. Enjoy the time off next week.
We have a full week ahead and 5 DAYS OF LEARNING! Let’s see what’s happening …

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“Hate is too great a burden to bear. It injures the hater more than it injures the hated.”
― Coretta Scott King
WEDNESDAY SCHEDULE – Quarter 3
For quarter 3, students will follow the schedule below on Wednesdays:
Cohort 1 -- Follow A Day (Monday) schedule
Cohort 2 – Follow C Day (Thursday) schedule
TRIMESTER 2 STUDENT PROGRESS
Last week, we were at the midpoint of the 2nd trimester. All student grades are currently up to date on Aspen. Please review your child’s grades at this time. For parent account login assistance or to reset your password, please email: portalhelp@
For remote families, you can check your child’s grades on FLVS/BUZZ and Edgenuity.
HYBRID SUPPORT STAFF
Our hybrid support staff has changed slightly. Stacia Bujnowski will no longer be the hybrid support person for 6th and 7th grade ELA/SS. Teresa Rogers (trogers@billericak12.com) will be taking over that role and will only be working with Locke students. Ms. Rogers is supporting 6th and 7th Locke students in all subjects.
Note: Jared Smith (jsmith@billericak12.com) will continue in his 5th-grade support role for both Locke and Marshall students.
I-READY TESTING
At this time, almost all students have completed I-ready testing. We thank students for their hard work on the test. Some students received a red rush flag on their assessment which tells us that the results are not valid. In these cases, we will have students retake the assessment and contact families.
STUDENT COUNCIL – COOKIE CONTEST!
Students in cohort 1 that ordered cookie kits can get them in the cafeteria during homeroom on Monday. If they were unable to pay due to the snowstorm, they can pay when they get their cookies! Also, to submit pictures of your cookies use the following form:
AUTISM AWARENESS T-SHIRTS
We will be having our annual autism awareness days on March 30th and April 1st. Please go to the link for the t-shirt order form.

MATH PROBLEM OF THE WEEK
Last week’s answer: 33
VALENTINE’S DAY
Kelly decided to celebrate Valentine’s Day for an entire month. She started giving her Valentine 1 candy heart on Jan. 14th, 2 candy hearts on Jan. 15th, 4 candy hearts on Jan. 16th, and continued doubling the amount of hearts each day until Feb. 14. If 200 candy hearts come in a bag, how many bags of candy hearts would Kelly need just for Feb. 14th?
Send your answers to Mr. Garas – tgaras@billericak12.com – Show your work! Your answers will be put into a drawing for a dunkins card! (and the famous math certificate!)
Congratulations to Alan Robertson and Nathan Reynolds for winning the drawing last week!
