QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"Students don't care how much you know until they know how much you care."—John C. Maxwell
AFTER SCHOOL THIS WEEK
HW Club, activities, and late buses will resume on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week. The week of March 16th is the last week of activities.
SBIRT SCREENING FOR 7th GRADERS
During the week of March 16th, all 7th graders will be participating in the SBIRT drug and alcohol screening. Please see the attached letter for more information and an opt-out form. If your child chooses to opt-out, please have your child turn the form into the main office. (a paper copy will be sent home also) If you have any questions, please contact me. Thank you.
VAPING PREVENTION ASSEMBLY
On Friday, March 13th all 6th and 7th grade students will attend an assembly on the dangers of vaping. The assembly will be period 1 on Friday.
VAPING PRESENTATION FOR PARENTS
There will be a vaping presentation for parents on March 10th at 6:00 PM in the Locke auditorium.
GRADE 6 PARENT WORKSHOP "Talking to Your Tween About Puberty"
At 5:15 on March 26th (prior to the start of parent conferences at 6PM) parents/guardians of Grade 6 students are invited to attend an informational workshop 'Talking to Your Tween about Puberty,' in room 314 with the Health teacher, Mrs. Carpenter. Mrs. Carpenter will share the Grade 6 growth and development (puberty and hygiene) curriculum and provide parents with the language and tools needed to feel comfortable and confident talking to their child about the changes adolescents go through during puberty. If you are unable to attend, please feel free to email Mrs. Carpenter if you’d like to request a copy of the presentation materials.
GRADE 6 CPR PROGRAM
In partnership with the Billerica Fire Department, we will be conducting the CPR program at the Locke from March 16th through March 19th. Billerica firefighters will join Mrs. Carpenter's health classes to conduct CPR certification training. At the end of the program (adult and infant CPR/AED and choking) your child will receive official CPR certification (free of charge).
It’s important that your child attend all four days of the training so please make attendance a priority and make every effort not to schedule appointments during that week. Please let me know in advance if you are aware of a conflict and we will make special arrangements to try to make up the missed class material with your child. CPR can double or even triple a person's chances of survival. We train every Grade 6 student in Billerica to be able to use this potentially life-saving skill in the event of an emergency at home, in school, on the playground, or at an athletic event. Our hope is to make the Billerica community a safer place.
