I hoping you are all enjoying the weekend. You know what they say about New England weather … We have 5 DAYS OF LEARNING this week and as always we have a busy week ahead. Let’s take a look and see what’s happening …

DAY 91/PROGRESS REPORTS
Quarter 3 begins on Day 91: Thursday, January 30th. Students, please check your schedules for your new unified arts class. Progress reports for core classes will be published next week on Wednesday, February 5th.  Please sign and return the progress report envelope.
AFTER SCHOOL THIS WEEK
HW Club and late buses will resume on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week. The late bus schedule is attached.
AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES – Starting this week
Winter activities will begin this week with the exception of set design which starts on February 3rd. If you have any questions about your child’s activity please contact the office or our secretary Mrs. Brewster at nbrewster@billericak12.com.
I-READY MID-YEAR ASSESSMENT
The i-ready mid-year assessment will be given during the month of January and the 1st week of February. Each team will determine their own schedule for testing. A reminder for students to do their best work on this assessment as we utilize the data as one of many factors to determine placement for next year and to improve our instructional practices.
NEW HALLWAY PASS POLICY
After vacation, we instituted a new pass policy. All students must use their agenda books as their hallway pass. Students are also asked to sign in/out of the classroom. If students need a new agenda book, we have them in the office for a $5 charge.
HONOR ROLL – TRIMESTER 1
Congratulations to all students for their accomplishment of achieving high honors or honors for the 1st trimester. The criteria for honor roll is:
High Honor Roll = 90% or higher overall grade in all Trimester 1 subjects (core classes, electives, PE, Band/Chor/Orch, reading, world language)
Honor Roll = 80% or higher in all Trimester1 subjects

MATH PROBLEM OF THE WEEK

MLK DAY! (same as last week, we are looking for more submissions!)
The third Monday of January is the holiday commemorating the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. The first time Martin Luther King Jr. Day was celebrated was in 1986. Try to solve these problems without using a calendar!
a. How many times has Martin Luther King Jr. Day been celebrated?
 b. How many times since 1986 has Martin Luther King Jr. Day actually been celebrated on his birthday, January 15th?
 c. What is the probability Martin Luther King Jr.’s actual birth date falls on the third Monday in January?
Turn your answers in to the office. SHOW YOUR WORK. The correct answers will be put in a drawing for huge, tremendous prizes!

Our next Restaurant Night will be on Tuesday, February 25th from 4:00-8:00 pm at The 99 Restaurant on Lexington Rd in Billerica.
If you need gifts cards, you can order online and help the PTO also. Please see the attached flyer regarding our Scrip fundraising program.
