LIFE AT THE LOCKE … Issue #13 2019-2020

November 24, 2019
Dear Parents/Guardians, Staff, and Students,
I hope you are enjoying the weekend as we prepare for the holiday season. It’s a rainy Sunday again, a great day to watch football and get ready for Thanksgiving. We only have 2½ DAYS OF LEARNING this week, but we will make the most of them.
As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, I would like to wish you all a happy and healthy holiday season ahead. I am thankful for the support you have given to me and our staff this year and I know in the weeks ahead we will continue to work hard to provide tremendous learning opportunities for our students. During this busy time, I hope we all can get a chance to pause and reflect on the positive moments of the past year and look forward to the coming months with renewed purpose. Happy Thanksgiving!
Monday, November 25th is a “A” Day. Please plan accordingly for the week.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
We must find time to stop and thank the people who make a difference in our lives.” -- John F. Kennedy
HALF-DAY – Wednesday, 11/27
Wednesday, November 27th is a half day. Breakfast and lunch will not be served.Dismissal will be at approximately 10:40 – 10:55. For the safety of students we need to wait for the buses to arrive to dismiss students. This is dependent on when the buses leave the high school. Walkers and pick-ups will be dismissed after bus students.
AFTER SCHOOL THIS WEEK – Monday only
We will have HW club and late buses only on Monday of this week. Fall activities have been completed.
TURKEY TOSS FUNDRAISER
The half day before Thanksgiving Student Council is going to hold the annual Turkey Toss in the gym to raise money and food for local families in need for the holidays. The Turkey Toss will be an assembly (one for each grade) the half day before Thanksgiving (Wednesday, Nov 27th).  A few representatives from each eligible homeroom will be chosen at random at the assembly to participate in the turkey toss.  They will be slinging rubber turkeys attempting to hit targets to earn points.  The homeroom from each grade with the most points earned will earn a prize of their choice. Also the homeroom that brings in the most items will win a reward. Each homeroom will be responsible for raising money and collecting canned goods. We ask that each homeroom raise $50 AND collect 50 food items.  The last day to turn in items is Tuesday, November 26th.
MATH PROBLEM OF THE WEEK
Last week’s answer:  5.5 by 11 inches
Abby, Brenda, Celia, Denise and Elizabeth are going to their town’s annual hayride. Tickets cost $8.00 for people 12 years old and older but only $5.00 for people 11 years old and younger. The total price for their five tickets is $31.00. How many people in the group are 12 years old or older?
BONUS: The group of five girls managed to secure five seats in a row on the crowded hayride. In how many orders can the five girls sit if they all sit in a row?
Turn your answers in to the office. SHOW YOUR WORK. The correct answers will be put in a drawing for huge, tremendous prizes!
