LIFE AT THE LOCKE … Issue #5 2019-2020

September 29, 2019
Dear Parents/Guardians, Staff, and Students,
I hope you are enjoying another beautiful New England weekend. It was another busy, hectic, exciting 5 days of learning at the Locke this past week. The HW club got started, late buses started moving, we had our first home cross country meet, and we welcomed in the fall season. What a great week!! We end our first month and enter October with another busy week ahead and 5 DAYS OF LEARNING! Let’s see what’s happening …
Monday, September 30th is a “D” Day. Please plan accordingly for the week.

HOMEWORK CLUB
HW club started last week. We had a great turnout! It will continue in the library every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Students do not need to sign up ahead of time for HW club. They will report to the library immediately after school. Students can attend as many days as the parent/student believes are necessary. Students are expected to stay for the full hour.
LATE BUSES
Late bus runs began last week and will run on every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The buses usually arrive at the Locke at 3:10 PM. Please see the attached late bus stops. One of our buses does drop off at the Boys’ and Girls’ Club.
MATH PROBLEM OF THE WEEK
Last week’s answer: 12 households
APPLE CIDER!
Nancy and Tim have an apple cider stand at their school every morning during the fall to raise money for their club. September 23 was the Autumnal Equinox, the first day of fall and their first day of business was September 23.
Several weeks ago, in preparation for their 2019 opening, Nancy and Tim went to pick their apples from a local orchard. Nancy picked apples at a rate of 30 apples per hour and Tim picked apples at a rate of 25 apples per hour. Tim and Nancy picked the same number of apples. Nancy picked apples for 5 hours, so how many hours must Tim have spent picking apples?
Turn your answers in to the office by Friday. The correct answers will be put in a drawing for huge, tremendous prizes!
