LIFE AT THE LOCKE … Issue #20 2018-2019

January 21, 2019
Dear Parents/Guardians, Staff, and Students,
I hope you are enjoying the three-day MLK weekend and take a moment to reflect on his legacy.  The Patriots made it back to the Super Bowl certainly made the winter weather a little bit easier to take. We have 4 days of learning this week and as always we have a busy week ahead. Let’s take a look and see what’s happening …
Tuesday, January 22nd is a “C” Day. Please plan accordingly for the week.

Please do not bring any food or beverages for your student. It is expected that the students’ will stand near their poster board and answer any questions visitors may ask about their project. Also, since we are at school, students are not allowed to use their cell phones during the science fair.
We look forward to seeing you at the Locke 8th grade Science Fair!

MATH PROBLEM OF THE WEEK
Last week’s answer: 01-10-19; 03-11-19; 05-12-19; 07-13-19; 09-14-19; and 11-15-19 are the 6 dates for which MM, DD, YY is an arithmetic sequence.
Shaping Up
Jayden started a new exercise program that includes running, cycling, yoga and aerobics. The chart shows how many calories Jayden burns by doing these exercises. Use this data to answer the questions that follow.
https://www.mathcounts.org/sites/default/files/u5328/exercise%20chart.jpg
The ratio of the number of calories Jayden burns per minute cycling to the number of calories he burns per minute running can be expressed as the common fraction a/b. What is the value of a + b? Turn answers into the main office.
