LIFE AT THE LOCKE … Issue #12 2018-2019

November 18, 2018
Dear Parents/Guardians, Staff, and Students,
I hope you are enjoying the weekend and were able to get out to the Turkey Trot today. Only 2 ½ Days of Learning this week, but we will make the most of them.
As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, I would like to wish you all a happy and healthy holiday season ahead. I am thankful for the support you have given to me and our staff this year and I know in the weeks ahead we will continue to work hard to provide tremendous learning opportunities for our students. During this busy time, I hope we all can get a chance to pause and reflect on the positive moments of the past year and look forward to the coming months with renewed purpose. Happy Thanksgiving!
Monday, November 19th is a “C” Day. Please plan accordingly for the week.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“We must find time to stop and thank the people who make a difference in our lives.” ―John F. Kennedy
HALF-DAY
Wednesday, November 21st is a half day. Breakfast and lunch will not be served. Dismissal will be at approximately 10:40 – 11:00. For the safety of students, we need to wait for the buses to arrive to dismiss students. This is dependent on when the buses leave the high school. Walkers and pick-ups will be dismissed after bus students.
AFTER SCHOOL THIS WEEK
We will have HW club and late buses only on Monday of this week.
THE TURKEY TOSS FUNDRAISER IS COMING … BRING IN YOUR DONATIONS!!
The half-day before Thanksgiving Student Council is going to hold the annual Turkey Toss in the gym to raise money and food for local families in need for the holidays. The Turkey Toss will be an assembly (one for each grade) the half day before Thanksgiving (Wednesday, Nov 21st ).  A few representatives from each eligible homeroom will be chosen at random at the assembly to participate in the turkey toss.  They will be slinging rubber turkeys attempting to hit targets to earn points.  The homeroom from each grade with the most points earned and the most donations will win a doughnut party for the whole homeroom. Each homeroom will be responsible for raising money and collecting canned goods. We ask that each homeroom raise $50 AND collect 50 food items.
BMHS WINTER ATHLETICS

PARENT CORNER
An important part of our health curriculum is to guide and educate students on the use of social media. It is difficult for parents to monitor and stay current on the latest apps and web sites that students are using. There are many resources for parents on this subject. See the link below for an interesting student survey on the use of social media.

MATH PROBLEM OF THE WEEK
Last week’s answer: a. 7.25% b. 855,616
Black Friday
James went shopping on Black Friday and received successive discounts of 25%, 40% and 20% off the original price. If James wanted to purchase the same items this week, what single percent discount would he have to receive off the original prices to get the items for the same price that they were on Black Friday after the three successive discounts?
Turn your answer into the main office.
