QUOTE OF THE WEEK
Nobody will ever deprive the American people of the right to vote except the American people themselves and the only way they could do this is by not voting. -- Franklin D. Roosevelt
AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES END THIS WEEK
After school activities will end this week.  They will return in January with new offerings. If you have any questions, please contact our secretary Mrs. Battcock.pbattcock@billericak12.com
THE TURKEY TOSS FUNDRAISER IS COMING …
The half-day before Thanksgiving Student Council is going to hold the annual Turkey Toss in the gym to raise money and food for local families in need for the holidays. The Turkey Toss will be an assembly (one for each grade) the half day before Thanksgiving (Wednesday, Nov 21st ).  A few representatives from each homeroom will be chosen at random at the assembly to participate in the turkey toss.  They will be slinging rubber turkeys attempting to hit targets to earn points.  The homeroom from each grade with the most points earned will win a doughnut party for the whole homeroom. Each homeroom will be responsible for raising money and collecting canned goods. We ask that each homeroom raise $50 AND collect 50 food items. Students can start bringing in donations Tuesday, 11/13.

PARENT CORNER
An important part of our health curriculum is to guide and educate students on the use of social media. It is difficult for parents to monitor and stay current on the latest apps and websites that students are using. There are many resources for parents on this subject. See the link below for an interesting student survey on the use of social media.
LOCKE ROBOTICS FUNDRAISER
Locke Monster Robotics is selling string bags and coffee mugs as a fundraiser: The 16-ounce two-tone mugs with the Locke Monster Logo are dishwasher and microwave safe. The green and black Locke Monster Logo sting bags have a zippered pocket on one side and mesh material on the other side, they are 13" by 15" and hold up to 16 pounds.
Bags: $10 Mugs $15, Special: 1 Mug and 1 Bag Combo for $20!
Please email Locke Monsters Robotics Coach Maureen Parker at mparker@billericak12.com to purchase. Thank you for your Support!
DC CANDY FUNDRAISER
Details:  Hershey candy bars, 30 bars per box.  You purchase the box for $30, cash or check payable to the Locke Middle School.  Candy bars are $2 each, they are the larger size candy bars, so you end up making $30 profit per box.  You can use the $30 to help subsidize the cost of the trip. Students can see Mrs. Ternullo (8A) or Mr. Paton (8B) to pick up boxes of candy.  There will also be some candy available in the main office if parents want to swing by the school and pick up one or more boxes themselves.
Please contact Mrs. Tolleson, jtolleson@billericak12.com, with any questions.

If 18,204,605 of those individuals were veterans, what percentage of the adult civilian population of the United States did veterans account for in 2017? Express your answer to the nearest hundredth.
 b. The U.S. Census Bureau also reported that 8.1% of those veterans in the U.S. in 2017 were veterans of the Korean War and 3.4% were veterans of World War II. What is the absolute difference between the numbers of U.S. veterans of the Korean War and WWII that year? Express your answer to the nearest whole number.
